Welcome to Sapgate Gardens

Sapgate Gardens is a community garden in the heart of Thornton. In 2016 a small group of local people got together to transform a small area of wasteland that had become a dumping ground, into the pleasant little ‘oasis’ that it is now.

The gardens  are maintained and managed by a group of volunteers; some of whom come regularly on designated work days (Thursdays and the last Saturday of each month) or occasionally.

As well as the main garden in Sapgate Lane, we maintain small areas around Thornton village, by planting flowers and weeding. We grow vegetables as well as flowers, and the veg. is free to take away and use. In the last couple of years, the garden has been used by visiting groups – usually weekly – from both the Thornton Primary and Beckfoot Thornton schools.

In addition to the gardening sessions, we organise monthly litter-picks, hold events such as music performances, Easter Egg hunts, Pumpkin carving and contribute towards Thornton In Bloom, to the Summer Fayre and to Mindfulness days.

We look forward to meeting you on Sapgate Gardens and hope you enjoy them as much as we do. Check the Events page for details of what’s on, or join the Sapgate Gardens Facebook page.
